My Story
My childhood was heavily influenced by the surrounding affluence of 1980s-90s Prince George's County, MD. I was raised by teachers, D.A.R.E. officers, principals, doctors, and politicians that all looked like me and set a great example for who I could choose to be. My mother was an elementary teacher that crafted a hybrid home school for us that set me up for future academic success.
I completed my bachelor of science degree at Bowie State University in biology with a minor in chemistry. I used the gap time in my educational pursuits to teach high school science in Prince George's county public schools where I was assigned both co-taught and self-contained special education classes. As a part of this responsibility, I wrote IEPs and 504 plans, as well as attending planning meetings and forging relationships with student's families.
At the end of that chapter I began my predoctoral studies at Howard University College of Dentistry. After graduation I remained there for residency.
At the end of that academic journey, I have found the amalgamation of these experiences to be a unique skillset to enrich my daughter's life. I pull from my time as a special educator, a struggling neurodivergent student, and the bedside manner I've developed as a healthcare provider to help her reach her full potential.
